Script description

A little masjid skyline for the TC002 whose sky follows your prayer times through the day.

What you see

  • The next prayer (in its own colour) and a countdown: 2H15, then 45M, then the minutes count down at prayer time.
  • The sky changes with the day: deep blue before Fajr, bright day sky around Dhuhr and Asr, a warm sunset at Maghrib, and stars after Isha.
  • The sun crosses behind the dome during the day, a crescent at night, and the windows light up after dark.
  • The prayer name steps aside after 3 seconds so you can see the whole sky, then slides back.

Browse with the knob ("time travel")

  • Press the knob (or the centre button) to start browsing.
  • Turn it to travel the sky to each prayer, plus sunrise and qiyam (the last third of the night). Each stop shows its time.
  • Press again, or wait 8 seconds, and the sky travels back to now.

Setup

  1. Install the script.
  2. In its settings set your City and Country (name or ISO code, e.g. Abu Dhabi + AE, London + GB).
  3. Pick your Method (AlAdhan calculation method number). Common ones: 1 Karachi, 2 ISNA, 3 MWL, 4 Umm al-Qura (default), 5 Egypt, 8 Gulf, 13 Turkey, 15 Moonsighting, 16 Dubai/UAE.
  4. Pick Asr: standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) or Hanafi.

Times are fetched once a day from the free AlAdhan API (no account or key needed), shortly after midnight, and retried every 10 minutes if the request fails.

Using Home Assistant instead
Set Times from to mqtt and Prayer topic to a topic of your choice, then publish JSON with local HH:MM times, e.g. from an automation using the Islamic Prayer Times integration:

{"fajr":"05:08","sunrise":"06:25","dhuhr":"12:10","asr":"15:23","maghrib":"17:51","isha":"19:05"}

Other settings

  • Display time: how long it stays in the rotation (default 10 s).
  • Name steps aside: turn off to keep the prayer name on screen.
  • Demo data: sample times, to try it without a connection.
  • Knob topic (optional): publishing left, right or select to an MQTT topic acts like the knob while the app is on screen.
  • Preview time (optional): shows a chosen minute of the day instead of now, to see the different skies.

Made for the TC002 (52×16, knob). Tested on AWTRIX NG 1.2.2.
