Script description

Hold the knob or say "Hey AWTRIX", ask something, and the clock answers out loud. A wave on the display shows where it is: blue while it listens, purple while it thinks, orange while it speaks. After the answer it keeps listening, so you can ask a follow-up without pressing anything. Five seconds of silence and it closes.

It can also tell you the time and the date, change the brightness or the volume, and turn the display on or off.

You bring the AI. With OpenAI, paste your API key under Apps → ⚙ → API keys and you are done. OpenAI bills you for what you use. Groq, OpenRouter and Mistral have their own key fields, and any service with the same interface works. To keep everything at home, with no account and no key, run awtrix-local-ai on your computer.

To start, pick LumenAssistant under System → Voice assistant on the clock's web page. Installing also fetches the ai module it needs.

While it… A press on the knob or select…
listens ends your question early
thinks or speaks stops it and listens again

Hold select to close it.

In the settings you can change the addresses and models, the language (empty detects it), what the model is told to do, how long it waits for you, and how long a pause ends your question. Leave Reply address empty for the clock's own voice, which starts sooner. Fill it in to have a service read the answer.

What you say, and the conversation so far, goes to the services you set. With local ones, nothing leaves your network.

Needs AWTRIX NG 1.2.3 or newer.
